JR Johnson-Roehr is a trained architectural historian who brings more than 20 years of experience in architecture and communications to their work at Kalin Associates. JR is responsible for developing marketing and strategies, ensuring a consistency of voice and tone in external communications. They regularly collaborate with the specifications team to secure new contracts and advance business development goals. Before joining Kalin, they served as the Communications Director and Interim Marketing Director at Boston-based Annum Architect, helping to sharpen the studio’s branding and attract new clients.

JR holds a PhD in Architecture from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign; their award-winning research focuses on the architecture of astronomy and the history of garden design in South Asia. Beyond the built environment, JR is an outdoors enthusiast and a multi-instrumental amateur musician. They are a board member of the Attleboro Land Trust, where they work to counter the effects of climate change on local biodiversity. They have also served on diversity, equity, and inclusion committees at the Boston Society for Architecture and the Society for Architectural Historians.
